What is the Compounding Quality Act?

The Compounding Quality Act allows an entity that compounds sterile drugs to register as an outsourcing facility, and requires those registered entities to meet  certain conditions. McMahan Pharmacy is not registered as an outsourcing facility, but still meets the conditions established in section 503A.  For example, a compounded drug cannot be contaminated or made under unsanitary conditions.  The Compounding Quality Act requires the Secretary to establish a mechanism to receive submissions from state boards of pharmacy concerning certain actions taken against compounding pharmacies or expressing concerns that a compounding pharmacy may be acting contrary to section 503A.
